Lost Creek Health News

I'm sure most of you have heard that a little red wine everyday in moderation is heart healthy. According to some of the cardiologists at St. Thomas hospital in Nashville, this information needs to be modified.

The thinking now is that about 40 grams of alcohol in any form is heart healthy, along with a small amount of dark chocolate.

With this information in mind, a while back sweet wifey and I began having a couple of glasses of wine every evening before bedtime. She liked champagne while my preference was white zinfandel. The problem with this is that to get 40 grams of alcohol, you gotta drink a couple of fairly good sized glasses of wine. Over time this ciphers to a lot of wine and it can get quite expensive, not to mention the space required to store all the wine bottles. Also wine and champagne tends to have a lot of non-alcohol carbohydrate calories which we didn't like.

After a while I began spiking Mountain Dew and lemonaide with a little vodka to get my alcohol ration. I thought this was pretty good, but wifey did not go for this idea so we entertained the idea of mixed drinks. The problem here is that most mixers have sugar and tons and tons and tons of carb calories. This type of thing is out of the the question for people like me that have a sugar blood problem. It also is not a good solution for all the fatties out there.

Then we found Baja Bob. Baja Bob is an online outfit that sells drink mixers sweetened with Splenda and they have little or no calories. Let me tell you, these things are GREAT. Wifey has fed me a variety of margaritas, martinis, mud slides, hurricanes, and pina colada's. Yum yum! They are sugar free, delicious, and the only calories are from the alcohol itself. You sure sleep better at night too. (Now you can only have a couple per day to remain heart healthy. More than that......well, you're a sot!)

Bob's mixers are inexpensive and his shipping prices are almost non-existent. Best of all the alcohol goes a long long way with mixed drinks unlike with wine which means fewer expensive trips to the liquor store.

So if you enjoy mixed drinks and you have a sugar blood problem or maybe you're just concerned about your waistline, click over to Baja Bob's place and give his sugar free mixers a try. You won't be sorry.

Click over to Right Truth every day. Wifey usually has a drink recipe posted there on a daily basis.

  1. I have discovered that a jigger of hootch, kept in the freezer, chased by a code red is GREAT!

  3. 40 grams = 1.41095 oz

Rounded off that's 1-1/2 ounces of alcohol. However, I doubt that having two drinks or even three will hurt.

  4. Yes, but the alcohol content of 1.41 ounces of LIQUID would depend on the proof of the alcohol.

If you had 1.41 ounces of pure alcohol which came in some form of 80 proof liquor then that would cipher to about 3 ounces of the liquid.

I figured one day that 40 grams of alcohol in white zinfandel which is 9 percent was somewhere close to 400cc of wine. That's nearly a pint.

  5. So the two mixed drinks I fix you, each with 2 ounces of (rum, tequila, vodka, gin, ... which are mostly 80 proof, total 4 ounces, is just 1/2 ounce over the prescribed amount for healthy heart.

  6. If you put 2 ounces of 80 proof (40 percent alcohol) rum into a mixed drink, that would be 0.8 ounces of alcohol.
