What is the Allure?

I just read that New York mayor Michael Bloomberg spent over 100 million dollars in his quest for re-election as mayor. I also read that soon to be former New Jersey governor, Jon Corzine spent over $100 million dollars in his recent combined senatorial and gubernatorial campaigns.

I just don't get it. These guys have got more money than sense, which is fine, more power to them. If I was this loaded though, I sure as hell wouldn't be a bit interested in politics. I'd think I could find something a whole lot more interesting on which to spend my money.

Then once these guys get in to power, most of them make bonehead laws, raise our taxes, and regulate the hell out of anything that crawls. In spite of all his spending, Corzine got his sorry ass voted out for more or less driving New Jersey into a sh*t hole.

What is it? Is it the thirst for power? Is it the need to control? I just don't get it. What is really a shame is that there are probably tons of average people out there who love America and its constitution and would make far better politicians than these Bozos.

Sadly, money talks and BS walks, so we'll never hear from any of them. Instead the political parties (both Republican and Dimocrat) will continue to stick more Bloombergs and Corzines under our noses.

Indeed these people are completely out of touch with the ideas of average Americans. The actions of congress in the face of an outraged public proves this over and over again.

It's no wonder the left hates Sarah Palin so. She's plain, she's middle class, she's not particularly brilliant on a political level, but she is exactly the kind of politician we need to see filling the seats in both the congress and the executive branch.

Dangerous World

Gives a whole new meaning to the word "clubbing" doesn't it?

Morbid Strangers Thanksgibberin

Sweet wifey and I spent some time this afternoon over at the Hensley's house (Morbid Strangers) eating and relaxing. Never seen so much food...... Gonna be back there tonight with the band while we knock out a few more original songs for our CD.

Our First Anniversary

One year ago today we were at a kennel in east Tennessee picking out our sweet baby girl, Penny. It's only been a year but it seems like we have had her forever.

This sweet little dog never fails to constantly give us love and she always makes us smile. She's just another one of our many blessings for which we are especially thankful for during this season.

Happy anniversary, Penny!

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Well, I'm working today, so I'm not thankful for that but I am thankful I have a place to work.

I have a lot of stuff to be thankful about. Here is my list:

1. God and country.
2. My sweet wifey, and sweet puppy, Penny.
3. The rest of my fambily.
4. All my friends, most of them in ham radio and music.
5. My boats and my life on the river.
6. My musical talents. They become more enjoyable every day.

Even the worst of days in the old USA is still probably better than the best of days in most other countries we know about. Don't complain about her and don't make excuses. Just give thanks.

What are YOU thankful for?

Obama, a Man with a Mission

I captured the following image off Drudge this afternoon:

Now you might look at this and ask, "What kind of an idiot can Barack Obama be?"

If would be nice to think that he is just a stupid naive idiot, but no, he's a man on a mission. His mission is more gubment intrusion, more gubment regulation, more loss of freedom for all of us.

Most of the people in congress are on the same mission.

Woe is us.

More Retro Stuff

I'd like to add to my thoughts old stuff from the 50's, 60's, and 70's being cooler than stuff today. See my previous post.

First of all there were TV shows, many of them in black and white. Black and white shows are cooler than color shows......they are different with a unique quality all their own. Some of my favorite TV shows were Sky King, Highway Patrol (cool old cars), Whirlybirds, Ripcord, Combat, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Jackie Gleason (the Honeymooners), Red Skelton.......I could go on. You just don't have good stuff like that anymore. With most of that stuff you could just disconnect from the world and smile and be entertained.

How about some of the long gone great actors? Humphrey Bogart, Yul Brynner, Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, Henry Fonda, the list goes on. Those guys are dead and gone, always remembered but never to return or be replaced. You just don't findem like that today.

Old guitars and amps, tube amps. Old Gibson SG's and Les Pauls, old Stratocasters and Telecasters. Old super reverb and twin reverb amps. Old Hammond organs with the mechanical tonewheels. Yeah, I know you can find reasonable facsimiles of all those today, but the new just doesn't quite stand up to the old sound wise. Old musical instruments are SOOOOOO COOL.

No Beatles, no Cream, no Grand Funk Railroad, no Creedence Clearwater Revival. Two of the Who are dead. Two of the Beatles are dead. Elvis Presley is dead. They have not and never will be replaced.

Back then you could actually drive from point A to point B with only your thoughts. If you had to make a phone call, God forbid, you'd have to stop at a phone booth. No such thing as cell calls and texting. Somehow it seemed so much simpler then.

Let's face it. I'm just a retro kind of guy........stuck in a time warp I guess. That's okay. I like being stuck.

Retro is Where it's at

I was just surfing around and found this picture. It's a Kustom 200 bass amplifier. It is covered in Naugahyde. Pretty cool looking doncha think? I had one of these when I played bass guitar back in the late 60's and early 70's. I can't say it was a great amp. The one I have now is no doubt a whole lot better, but heck I was young and didn't know any difference.

Anyway, it looked really cool and today I have a Kustom 200 PA amp, wrapped in Naugahyde. I use it in my studio.

I sent Kustom an email a while back and suggested they start making Naugahyde covered products again. They sent back a nice reply and said if the demand for such things picked up, they would consider it. It's all just business I guess.

Is it just me or do you people near my age think that things back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's were just a lot cooler than things today?

Long Haired Country Boy

Here's one more song before I hit the sack. A country song for a change!

Evil Ways

Been having a blast with Pro Tools and those steenkin' Morbid Strangers. Here's an old Santana song. I'm doing the sangin' on this one and playing the keyboard. Hope you like it.

Lizzard is a New Grandpappy - Liberals are Humorless and Predictable - Some Days it's Good to Get Up.

Well it is with great pleasure that I announce that my good friend Lizzard is now a Grandpappy. The picture above shows my good friend Lizzard on the left and Butterbean Bayles on the right. Yeah, I can't figure why you'd name a kid Butterbean.

Now I really had some fun today. Samantha, Lizzard's daughter is Butterbean's momma, and yall may or may not recall that she is the one that accused me of being a greedy racist for no other reason than I made a good living for myself through study and hard work and did not take gubment handouts.

Anyway, I went over to Lizzard's facebook page and INTENTIONALLY left the following comment about the new baby: "Thank goodness the kid is white!"

I figgered it wouldn't be long before Lizzard's liberal socialist daughters and all their friends and fambily would be wailing and wringing their hands over my thoughtless and racist comment. Well I wasn't wrong. In a very short time the page was full of comments calling me an asshole, an idiot, stupid......you get the picture.

Liberals are so predictable. All you gotta do is know which button to push and when to tweak them and BOOM! Of course they all live to be offended too. Like I told Lizzard, it is a damned shame he has such humorless friends and fambily. And my goodness, aren't those liberals an angry bunch.

By the way, Lizzard made the same comment when my grandson was born 12 years ago. He told this to his humorless fambily and friends and I'm sure they were all horrified to find out that Lizzard was a racist just like me.

Anyway, I had a GREAT time. Anytime you can piss off a liberal it was worth getting up in the mawnin!

Congradgeeashuns on being a new grandpappy, Lizzard.

Stupid, Ignorant, Bigoted People Always Seem to Have the Answers

Sometimes life at our sleepy little hospital can get a little frustrating. In particular I have become rather disgusted at the enormous amount of criticism the present hospital administrator has endured.

When she came here in January of 2007, she inherited a mess. The hospital was nearly in financial ruin. Without going through all the gory details, suffice to say this was due to years of mismanagement and inattention. When she came the hospital was hemorrhaging money. In the last 3 years she has at least managed to plug the leaks and establish a positive cash flow. We're not making a bundle, but we're holding our own.

She has made many tough and unpopular decisions, decisions that had to be made for the hospital to survive. Some folks that were not towing the line had to go. Sad but true.

The other day I caught wind of some of the scuttlebutt going around town at the local grill and the beauty shop and all those other places where ignorant people congregate to gossip. The gist of the conversation was, "That woman is just ruining the hospital." Of course I got wind of no specifics at all. I doubt the people running their mouths know any specifics.

I have come to learn that it is usually the most ignorant, stupid, and bigoted people that end up running their mouths the loudest. These same people are not privy to the monthly financial statements. I am. These same people have not witnessed "that woman" agonize over some of the decisions she has had to make. I have. These people are not in the thick of things as far as the day to day operations of the hospital are concerned. I am. I know first hand how much better off we are than we were two years ago.

I told a group the other day that if the administrator were a man and a southerner instead of a woman and a yankee, that there would not be near the furor over some of the "horrible" things she has done.

That's right. I am ashamed to say that there are a ton of people in this area that are so small minded and bigoted that they will believe a woman and an outsider is not up to the task, regardless of results.

My Daddy always told me that if you don't know what you're talking about, you can at least have the courtesy to just shut up. Good advice I would think for many of our townsfolk.

Whew! I feel better now!

The Grouch's Music Studio

I wanted to share a little of the stuff I've been working on with Pro Tools audio. What follows are some tracks which I created in the studio. Everything you hear is me, the vocals and the instruments. Tell me what you think.

The One You Love: A Glenn Frey song. Morbid Strangers actually performs this one but this particular recording is just me.

Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye: An old song performed by the Casinos and many others. The Strangers were laughing at me playing this on the piano the other day, but trust me, you'll get a lot of belly rubbing slow dancers with this one.

A Whiter Shade of Pale: I just love the sound of a Hammond B3. This Procol Harum song will guarantee more slow dancing. If I can get James to learn the words, the Strangers can do this one live.

Walk Away Renee: A 1966 vintage song first performed by the Left Banke and then made famous by the Four Tops. With a haunting melody, this is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Hope that stuff helped you relax.

Morbid Strangers - Cinnamon Girl

Those steenkin' Morbid Strangers perform Cinnamon Girl...

Message from a Tattooed Girl

I may be and old fogey and perhaps a bigot, but at least I'm a fair minded bigot. I have gotten a ton of hits from a previous post called: Pretty Girls, Ugly Girls, Tattoos, Jobs, Welfare, Life's Little Decisions.

I got what I would call a thoughtful reply from a young lady named Stella. I don't necessarily agree with her, but at least she was nice and did not call me a Nazi or a racist as did a previous commenter. Here's her comment. Perhaps you readers would care to voice an opinion???

Personally I love tattoos, why would I not want to be covered in art? I am not a drug seeker, or a free loader, and I am definetly not trashy or poor. I know full well that people are going to judge me for my tattoos, and I am fine with that, if someone is going to write me off before they listen to what I have to say then that is one less close minded, ignorant person in my life and my tattoos just did me a favor. Having said that I think that you can tell a lot about a person from their tattoos, I plan on getting a sleeve, but I would never get a tramp stamp, a girl can have tattoos and keep it classy it's 2009 times are changing, it's not impossible to have tattoos and be successful, if your on welfare don't blame it on your tattoos you've clearly made many bad decisions in your life and your tattoos are just icing on the cake. If your good at what you do, tattoos should not be a factor. As for your opinion about girls with tattoos being hideous, I doubt very much that those girls would enjoy being oggled by an overweight, middle aged man in a jean jacket, oh and my dad happens to be a rich white guy with a visible arm tattoo, when hiring people he bases it on experience, skill and work ethic, what a crazy concept right?

By the way. I told Stella I was way beyond the ogling stage.

I Hate my Children

I was just told by a liberal that I hate my children.

This was because I told the same liberal that I was not concerned over carbon emissions.

Liberal logic never ceases to amaze me.

Government Funded Murder - Your Tax Money at Work

Things are getting serious out there. The Wicked Witch of the West, Nancy Pelosi, with her 2000 plus page monstrosity health care destruction bill is now giving the HHS secretary the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under gubment run healthcare.

Better yet, when you end up on the public option, and sooner or later you will as employers dump their employees on the gubment dole, you'll have to pay an "abortion premium" to fund the gubment sanctioned murder of the unborn.

You won't have a choice! Murder by taxation!

Check it out!

An Enjoyable Football Weekend for a Change

Well, I been busy fooling with my music studio software and making up productions so I have been a little lax in my blogging. In fact the Morbid Strangers did our first Pro Tools recording last night, Smoke on the Water. We still got some work to do on it but so far it is sounding pretty cool.
Last weekend was a most enjoyable football weekend for me. Saredee I got to watch the Tennessee Vols lay the wood to the 22nd ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. Tough Tennessee defense and turnovers boosted the Volunteers to a 31-13 victory.

I guess Tennessee has some hope for a bowl game. Our biggest remaining challenge this year I guess is Ole Miss. I am confident the Big Orange will finish above .500 and perhaps make it to the Toilet Bowl or the Trojan Condom Bowl. I think those bowls enjoy about the same nummer of viewers as CNN.

Sunday was also fun as that powerhouse team the Tennessee Titans rolled to a 30-13 victory over those tricky Jacksonville Jaguars.

Vince Young was the QB and I'll have to say that he looked pretty good. He played well and looked confident. I hope he regains the magic he had when he led Texas to the victory over USC.....probably one of the most exciting college games I ever saw.

Now if the Titans can just win out, secure a wild card spot, and win all the playoff games, we'll be Super Bowl bound!

Finally, I got to watch the last half of the game on Monday Night Football. It was a nice way to end the football weekend. The New Orleans Saints won a hard fought 35-27 victory over the Atlanta Falcons with Atlanta pushing toward a comeback all the way down to the wire.

The Saints remain undefeated for the season. They are "marching in" this year.

What a nice football weekend!

Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Well now, yall know I am big on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Of course the eighth amendment prohibits the use of cruel and unusual punishment. As with the second amendment, the left has slowly but surely over time chipped away at the eighth to the point that murderers, mother rapers, father rapers (for all you Arlo Guthrie fans), are given no more than what amounts to a slap on the wrist for their dirty deeds.

I read about a court in Saudi Arabia that had upheld a punishment of beheading and crucifixion against a man guilty of raping 5 children and leaving one of them to die in the desert. Yeah, I guess crucifixion sounds pretty cruel (at least the way the Romans did it), but you gotta realize that in the Saudi context it simply means hanging up the DEAD body for all to see. The actual death is caused by decapitation.

What exactly is cruel and unusual? I guess that's a matter of debate. From the birth of this country and up until almost recently, death by hanging was a widespread and accepted method of execution. If done by a short drop method and by an experienced hangman, death was instantaneous, nothing much cruel about that, and certainly not unusual. During the same time, the French were lopping off heads with the guillotine. Messy yes, but again, with instant death, not cruel, and at least for the French certainly not unusual.

So what to do with someone who rapes 5 children and leaves one for dead? I think removing his miserable head and hanging the headless corpse pretty much fits the crime. I agree with the Saudis on this one.

Slow but Sure Demise of the Nanny State

Well, little sweet Wifey put up a post on her blog the other day about half the people in the country being on food stamps at one time or another during their miserable lives. What a nanny state we have become. What is really appalling is that the gubment is GLAD. The leftists encourage more and more nanny state dependence.

Another thing that really burns me are these woman who pop out one baby after another only to be raised up and live on the gubment dole.

A New Zealand politician, Michael Laws thinks that society would be better off to pay these people $10,000 and have them sterilized. Laws' concern is the number of children in New Zealand that grow up in abusive environments.

Of course, Mr. Laws' has just horrified those on the left, whose "liberal policies" have failed to resolve the problem. He has been branded as "totalitarian" and "draconian".

Hell, I think he has the right idea! There's nothing totalitarian or draconian about it. IT'S VOLUNTARY! And $10,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of taking care of an abused child from birth to adulthood. If you got the majority of these creeps on board, the nanny state would eventually die out.

Go HERE to read about Michael Laws.

What say you?

Musical Fun with Pro Tools

I'm beginning to progress exponentially with Pro Tools Audio. The MacBook Pro is clicking right along. I have been able to produce a few creations with me playing various parts on the keyboard, playing the bass, creating the drum track, and singing.

Sweet Wifey liked one of my creations so much that she posted an audio track on Right Truth. Go HERE to read her post and listen to my audio track.

It's always nice to take abreak with a refreshing strawberry margarita. Life is good!

Senator Lamar Alexander is the traitorous senator from Tennessee who voted to confirm the racist judge, Sonya Sotomayor. Never again will I vote for Lamar Alexander. He is not up for re-election until 2014, but I intend to post this reminder each and every month until then. I hope he either resigns or they run a true conservative against him in the primary. I challenge my fellow bloggers to do the same if you have RINO's in your state that need to go. I may add my other senator, Bob Corker, to this reminder. I'm waiting for him to cross the aisle again and work with Dimocrats.
