Happy New Year


Well, I guess this will be my final post of 2009. I'm fixing to go get a bite of supper, yeah, I know you yankees call it dinner, but real, down to earth people like me call it supper. Then I'm gonna listen to my Rush podcast where the brilliant Walter E. Williams will be closing out 2009 for us hopefully with words of wisdom and encouragement.

After that I'm gonna settle into my position on the couch and watch four quarters of football as the Chick-Fil-A bowl matches the powerhouse 7-5 Tennessee Vols against 9-3 Virginia Tech.

I hope my blog has been a source of entertainment and information for some of you, and frankly I hope I've pissed a few of you off. I really love pissing people off. There are a bunch out there that live to be offended, and I love finding them.

Sweet Wifey and I went and saw the movie "Invictus" the other night. I highly recommend it. You will leave feeling good and inspired.

I'd like to close out 2009 with the final verse of the poem, "Invictus", by William Ernest Henley:

Nelson in Deep Doodie

Well the good news is that the criminal Nebraska Senator, Ben Nelson, is in deep doodie with his constituents after he took his bribe from Harry Reid and voted for the health care destruction bill in the senate.

Sources say that only 17 percent of Nebraska voters approve of the bribe he took. 56 percent of voters in his state think the bill if it becomes law will hurt quality of care and 62 percent believe it will raise costs. Nice to see that the majority of people in Nebraska are paying attention.

Nelson also aired a TV ad to try and make his case with the voters. Evidently, according to polls, if he ran in an election today, he would lose to a Republican opponent by almost a 2 to 1 margin. His ad was launched during the Arizona-Nebraska football game tonight.

By the way, the cornhuskers won by a score of 33-0.

The bad news is that Nelson is not up for re-election until 2012. He will have plenty of time to smooth things over. People will forget as other events occur and recollections become cloudy. It is up to us in the blogosphere to bring this up again and again. As with my sorry excuse for a senator, Lamar Alexander, I AM NOT FORGETTING! We need to remind people of the dastardly deeds of our hack politicians EVERY DAMNED DAY!

I hope the criminal Nelson suffers a defeat on a magnitude of the ass whipping delivered by the cornhuskers tonight. He has thumbed his nose at the will of the people. He deserves to lose and lose big!

Well I've been having fun today creating our cover CD for the Morbid Strangers band. This CD contains some cover tunes with which we plan to promote the band. We have a bunch of original songs that we're planning for another CD. I had my first experience using Lightscribe CD's. They make pretty neat and professional looking creations. The Russians Save us from Doomsday!


Well, here's some interesting news. Our "friends" the Russians are contemplating sending a spacecraft to the asteroid, Apophis, which they say has a chance of impacting Earth some time after 2029. The plan is to send the craft to the asteroid to divert its course. They weren't quite clear on how this would happen but they went on to say that no nuclear explosions would be required.

I'm not a physicist or astronomer so I don't know all the particulars. After 2029 I'll be so old that I won't really care if the damned thing hits the Earth or not. We all gotta go some time you know.

In the world of unintended consequences, what would really be funny is if they diverted the thing and it ended up hitting the Earth after all! Now I would hope that I was alive to see that! They would no doubt blame it on George Bush.

2010, the Year of the Nanny State

My friends, looks like 2010 may be the year we are transformed into the complete nanny state. I just read another article talking about more new anti-smoking laws, anti-texting laws, anti-transfat laws.......SIGH.

They tell you what to smoke, when to talk, when not to talk, what to eat, what to drink, and when to eat it and drink it. They tell you what kind of light bubs to use. They tell you where to set your thermostat. They tell you what to drive.

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind, do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

2010 should be fun. Let us hope for a major uprising!

Warm Drive

The winter solstice has passed and the days are finally getting longer again. We're starting to enter the dreariest time of the year for me.......January and February. The skies are gray. The cold north wind cuts like a knife and it's darker more than it is light. What a depressing time.

Even now though I can find a tidbit that will make me smile. I started up the truck a few minutes before I headed to work this morning. When it's finally time to go, the morning air is cold and chilling. It's still dark.

As I drive along in the darkness I feel the warmth from the hot gasoline fire bathing my feet. I turn up the fan a notch. Boy that feels good.......almost like slipping into a warm bath. Half way there I think that it would be nice if I had an hour's drive ahead of me instead of just a few more minutes. I don't really want to leave the nice warm truck.

At my destination I shut off the engine and just sit for a spell. All is quiet. I head in to the chamber of horrors for another day's work.

Winter will be over in another couple of months..............I can't wait.

New Alliances

Well, the Titans are toast this year after a 42 to 17 shellacking by the Bolts last night. Now I gotta decide on someone new to root for for the Super Bowl. Maybe the Saints? Any suggestions?

Chrismuss Day Miracle

Still hoping the Tennessee Titans can pull off a miracle and make the playoffs. First they have to beat the San Diego Chargers tomorrow night. If they lose, it's over.

Then, Pittsburgh needs to beat Baltimore, Miami needs to beat Houston, New England needs to beat Jacksonville, Indy needs to beat the New York Jets, and Philadelphia needs to beat Denver.

Piece of cake huh? Probably more likely I will walk on the water tomorrow.

I Have a Weak Heart


The Titans live! The Dolphins came back from an 18 point deficit in the second half to tie the game and drive it into overtime. Bironas saved the day by kicking a 46 yeard field goal to give the Titans the win.

I just dunno if my weak heart can take many more of those.

Bad news......Keith Bulluck, Titans star linebacker is out with a sprained knee. His return is questionable. It's gonna be tough next week against the Chargers.

Have We Maxed Out Our Last Credit Card???

Well I read today that the Chi-Comms are now saying that it is getting harder for gubments to buy United States Treasuries. This is because the US's shrinking current-account gap is reducing the supply of dollars overseas.

Why is this?

I Like It, I Love It, I Want Some More of It!

Well I read that some West Virginia woman has gotten her tit in a ringer for slapping an environmental protester at a West Virginia coal mine. She is charged with battery.

I say you go woman! These people in West Virginia are trying to mind their own bidness, and trying to make a living, and believe it or not, actually WANT TO WORK!

I had to laugh when the miners referred to the protesters as "limp wristed greeniacs". (Sounds like something I'd say).

I have to wonder about these idiot protesters. Why are they not working? If they had real jobs, they wouldn't have time to be sticking their noses into someone else's bidness.

But that's just me.............

Anyone know what you just read? Of course it is part of the Declaration of Independence. I was reading it in detail the other day and thinking about the situation then and also thinking of the situation now. I realized that in many places I could substitute Barack Obama and/or the United States Congress in the place of King George and the implications were exactly the same! Chilling!

Our federal gubment is no doubt corrupt. Corrupt beyond repair I think. So corrupt that I think it is impossible to do away with it by lawful or peaceful means. Only yesterday the vote of Ben Nelson was finally BOUGHT by the rest of the corrupt criminals in the senate. A few weeks ago the vote of Mary Landrieu was BOUGHT in a similar manner. These thugs are buying these votes with YOUR MONEY and MY MONEY! Who knows how many more under the table "deals" have been made with our money?

This business of buying votes amounts to nothing more than bribery. If you or I engaged in such behavior, we'd probably go to jail.

The Declaration of Independence in which Jefferson waxed so eloquently and the Constitution for which so many over the last 200 plus years have sacrificed and died have been trampled and discarded by a corrupt few in Washington DC.

These are Jefferson's words. Indeed our current federal gubment is corrupt and destructive. Worse I think than the situation under King George in many areas. The congress and the Obama administration foists upon us daily doses of tyranny. Our erosion of freedoms has been slow and insidious since the days of FDR. Now they are snatching our freedom and liberty away in huge chunks.

There is no doubt in my mind that the time has come for the federal gubment of the United States to be abolished. Jefferson sanctioned it, in fact demanded it. There has been great hope by many on the right that the 2010 and 2012 elections will result in a tremendous ousting of the Washington DC criminals. I am very skeptical. In these days of bribery, buying of votes, lying and deceit by the politicians and the media, the general public with their collective heads up their collective asses, and federally backed organizations like Acorn, I doubt any meaningful change is going to occur.

One of two things has to happen. Either we will go quietly into the smothering abyss of socialism, or one day there will be a sudden and swift eruption of massive civil disobedience and forceful dissolution of the federal gubment. I hope for the later.

It happened on a small scale here in Tennessee a few years ago. An angry mob stormed the state capitol and actually threw rocks through the windows. This happened when it became known that the governor and the legislators were trying to sneak through a state income tax (we're one of the few states without one). The measure failed. The bastards got the message.

How will overthrow of the federal gubment happen? I have trouble getting my arms around such a concept. There has already been talk from some of the states about secession. Could it really happen? One day several of the states declare absolute sovereignty and refuse to abide by federal law. Could it happen? What if after Obamacare is finally enacted that there is a massive uprising by taxpayers fed up with being forced to buy insurance and fed up with being forced to fund the murder of unborn babies? Suddenly a majority of taxpayers stop sending checks to the treasury. "No more money until the president and the entire congress resigns!" Could it happen? In the midst of this turmoil, what if Washington DC is suddenly destroyed by a nuclear blast? The blast would come from a terrorist nuke obtained from North Korea or Iran. Could it happen?

How would the federal gubment react to massive uprisings by individual states or huge masses of armed citizens intent on abolition of the gubment? Would the gubment try and jail a majority of taxpayers? Would federal troops fire on citizens? Would the citizens fire back?

Somewhere out there in the future is the tipping point. Some event or combination of events will one day lead to sudden, brutal, and irreversible uprising. What will be the final outcome? Think it cannot happen? Events in 1776 and 1861 both led to shooting wars.

Go read the entire Declaration of Independence. Read it slowly and deliberately. Think about what is going on today. There will be tears in your eyes when you finish.

Christmas is the Time for Miracles!

Well, in spite of an 0-6 beginning, the Tennessee Titans still have a shot at making the playoffs. To do so, they will have to win their 3 remaining games and will probably need a little help to boot. They have to beat the Miami Dolphins today in Nashville. The Dolphins don't have a great record but they have been playing well lately. If the Titans survive today, they will face the San Diego Chargers next week who have won 8 in a row............yikes! Last they have to contend with the hapless Seahawks in Seattle. Even that could be an unpleasant surprise though.

Vince Young has a sore knee and a pulled hamstring. I have not heard for sure if he's playing today, although Kerry Collins can certainly get the job done.

So the road ahead looks pretty rocky for the Titans, but they're not dead yet. It would be pretty cool for a 9-7 team to take it all the way to the Super Bowl, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm working at the Chamber of Horrors today, but I'll have the radio on at the desk.

I woke up this morning and looked at the clock. It was 4:20AM. Sweet Wifey and Puppy were warm and quiet and making soft sleepy sounds. How nice.

Back on October 26, I posted something titled, A Particular Evil Drug Company Annoys Me!

This was a swipe at the evil drug company, GlaxoSmithKline, for sending me a "reminder" every month to go refill my very expensive Avandia prescription. The gist was if they would quit sending out this nonsensical (I'm gonna go get the drug anyway) reminder every month, they could save a ton of money and reduce the price of the drug.

Immediately after the post, I got several hits from a GlaxoSmithKline website. It dawned on me yesterday that since I put up the post, I have not gotten a single one of those stupid reminders.

Coincidence? Maybe......

Maybe someone out there is actually watching and reading.

I hope to hell Barack and Nancy and Harry are watching and reading. I hope they know what a bunch of low life communist scum bag losers I think they all are.

By the way, I have no ill will toward GlaxoSmithKline. They are a reputable company and produce many good products. The gubment should get the hell out of their way as it should get out of the way of every free market enterprise and just let them conduct bidness.

Heard anything lately from Colin Powell?

Last fall he told us Barack was our man and turned his back on John McCain and the Republicans.

Now a year later, here we are:

1. Barack has led us to the greatist national debt in history, continuing to spend our grandchildrens' money.

2. Barack has taken over the banks, the car companies, and the housing industry. He wants more.

3. Unemployment is at nummers not seen since the great depression and there is no end in sight.

4. We are on the brink of destroying the finest health care system in the world and turning it over to the federal gubment while at the same time forcing citizens to buy health rationing insurance under penalty of law.

5. We are on the brink of completely destroying what is left of the economy by imposing cap and trade in the name of an absolute hoax.

6. Barack ignored the requests of his commanding general in Afghanistan. Months later he sends him less than the requested nummer of troops, automatically sets a timetable for withdrawal, and leaves our troops there to die, hogtied by ridiculous rules of engagement and no plan of victory. He won't even use the word VICTORY. The terrorists have to be laughing their asses off!

I can't say we would have been much better off with McCain, but I do believe he would have fully supported our military efforts. I don't think he would have apologized for America in front of the world either.

Where are you now secretary Powell? The silence is deafening. How's that hoax and change working out for you?

Let's face it. They want to pass anything. They don't care what it says. They just want to make Barry Obama look good. Too bad they are opening the door for the gubment to take over a sixth of the US economy.

Even if they only pass a watered down bill, they'll go back later and tinker and tinker with it until they have the gubment option and bankrupt Medicare for all.

If it passes it is not likely it can ever be undone. Can you name for me an entitlement program that has ever gone away after it was created? Kinda like taxes. Once you create a tax it is with you forever.

It makes me sick watching the left unravel the fabric that made this country great.

Curses! Mt Visa card is maxed out at $10,000! I don't have the money to make a payment! I just had to have all those new ham radios!

Dadgummit! I just maxed out my Mastercard! I made the minimum payment on the Visa card with it and bought another $10,000 worth of musical instruments!

OMG! OMG! My Discover card is maxed out! I made minimum payment on the Mastercard and had enough money left over to get that new bass boat I have been NEEDING!

OMG! OMG! Whatever will I do?

Hooray! I just got me a shiny new Amex card! I'll be able to make minimum payments on all the other cards and have plenty of money left over for Christmas shopping!

Hey! What's the problem? Why are you frowning? I just raised my debt ceiling! Didn't I hear that the federal gubment just did that?

FLASH! Dog Thinks She's a Cat!


Sweet Wifey sent me this while ago. Our sweet beagle dog, Penny, seems to think she's a cat as she walks along the back of the furniture, passing the time, looking out the windows, etc. You can't see me but I was on the couch below and out of sight.

Educating New Republicans in the Way They Should Go!

A few weeks ago, a young nurse who works here at the hospital was excited that she had been asked to sit on a Republican committee. I dunno exactly what the function of this committee is but it has something to do with finding and nominating new Republicans to run for future office.

I tried to get picky with her and asked what she really knew about any of this. At first she was a little shaky in her responses to me.

I told her that it was really very easy. The first thing I asked her was, "What is the most important thing to consider before introducing a new bill to the legislative body for consideration?"

She thought and thought with a puzzled look on her face. I told her the answer was really not that hard. The answer is that if the new bill would result in a law that is not mandated by the constitution of the United States or creates a situation that is contrary to the constitution of the United States then it should be immediately discarded.

I told her that if a prospective Republican candidate could not figure this out and abide by this principle, then they should not be considered.

Then I asked her to give me an example of when it is acceptable to levy a new tax.

She thought for a minute and than smiled and said, "NEVER?"

"Absolutely correct!" I exclaimed.

I told her our gubment is bloated and overgrown already and is in the bidness of promising everybody, everything, at the expense of those few of us who still work. It is time for the gubment to start conducting their fiscal matters like the rest of us and cut back and hold the line when warranted.

I think she is excited about her next meeting. It is so nice to orient young people in the right direction.

While I am on my soap box I have a simple 5 point health plan guaranteed to solve the healthcare "crisis" in America.

1. Pick up the phone.

2. Call your doctor's office.

3. Make an appointment.

4. Show up for your appointment.

5. Pay your doctor bill.

The above 5 point health plan is guaranteed to work each and every time it's tried.

I have been thinking about adding a 6th point and this would be, "kill all the lawyers and kill'em tonight.", but I didn't want to sound too radical.

EPIDEMIC! Failure to See the Family Doctor!

A new day's work has begun. My first patient is a middle aged man with back and hip pain for over a week. He told me he has a history of gout.

"Have you considered seeing your family doctor about this?" I inquired.

That thought had not crossed his mind. I offered him some treatment and advised him to call his family doctor TODAY for an appointment.

My second patient is a YOUNG man with "headaches for some time". I do an exam and determine there is no emergent condition.

"Have you considered seeing your family doctor about this?" I inquired.

That thought had not crossed his mind. I offered him some treatment and advised him to call his family doctor TODAY for an appointment.

When I launched the suggestion of seeing the family doctor, I was met with BLANK STARES from both. You could tell that this was a completely foreign idea.

Afterward I checked. Both of these people had Tenncare (gubment run health plan). Both of them were unemployed. Both of them looked as able to work as did the nurse and I. Both of them had family doctors. If you have Tenncare, you are assigned a family doctor.

So there is pretty much no excuse for appearing in an ER with non-emergent complaints that have been going on for days or weeks. However, seeing the family doctor seems to be the farthest thing from the minds of these people.

I have enough of a problem paying for someone else's healthcare (especially when they are able to work) but when they are too lazy or inept to even make an appointment with their family doctor, it really frosts me. Personal responsibility should be a requirement if you're going to get on the gubment option.

If Barry and the Dimocrats have their way, this problem will only get worse.

What Will it Take to Get Them to Use the "H" Word?

I was watching the "all star panel" the other day on I think it was Bret Baier's show on Fox. It might have been Chris Wallace's show. Hell, I can't remember for sure. Anyway, the topic was "climategate" and true to form, Juan Williams, who no doubt has blindly swallowed the global warming koolaid said something to the effect that in spite of all the shenanigans that went on at East Anglia University that there was no doubt that man made global warming was real and we needed to do something about it.

I waited patiently for one of the other panelists to say, "Juan, it's a hoax. We don't need to do anything at all about it."

I waited..................waited......................NOTHING!

I am of the opinion that if you're in a fight and you knock your opponent to the ground then the thing to do is finish him off with a final crushing blow. You don't hem and haw and dilly dally around and wait for him to get back up again.

Seems as if the global warming idiots have been knocked to the ground, unfortunately, it seems like the ones on "our side" just can't bring themselves to use the word HOAX! IT'S A HOAX DAMMIT!

I did some investigating:

One of my favorite authors and pundits, Charles Krauthammer, declares that he is a global warming agnostic. Much to my disappointment he won't declare it is a HOAX. Krauthammer is a brilliant guy. He has to know the truth. Why won't he take the plunge?








Another familiar face is Steve Hayes with the Weekly Standard. Steve is supposed to be on "our side". Alas he says, "I take global warming seriously...".

Good Lord, Steve! You take a HOAX seriously???



Fred Barnes says, "global warming isn't manmade - but I won't tell you how I know that."

Gee whiz, Fred. Let us in on the secret. I could not find any place that Fred had said that warming was a HOAX.





Then I tried out some politicians, specifically my two fine senators from Tennessee.

Lamar Alexander says, “Over the next 20 years, if we really want to deal with global warming, we really only have one option and that is to double the number of nuclear power plants."

Sounds like Lamar thinks global warming is the real thing huh?

Oh well, I'm never gonna vote for him again anyway.



My other senator, Bob Corker does not deny that the globe is warming, does not spend time on the debate over how much of the warming is man made, and won't even say that he opposes cap and trade. His stance is that he wants a "more informed conversation" about the bill, so as to get "a better product."

Sounds like the senator is most interested in working with Dimocrats to get a bill, even if the bill is dealing with a non-existent problem.

Senator! We don't need another damned bill!

Looks like there is no help to be had from my politicians.

Brit Hume came close when he said, "...manmade global warming may be a fraud."

But he just couldn't take the plunge and call the whole thing a HOAX!



What is the problem, boys and girls? I'd be willing to bet that a majority of the people I mentioned above know in their hearts it is a HOAX. Why can't they just come out and say it? Is it forbidden like the "N" word? Hell, I'll betcha a whole buncha people on the left know it's a HOAX too. They all know that cap and trade is not going to fix anything. All it's going to do is massively raise the cost of energy and impose more and more gubment control over all our lives. THAT my friends is the bottom line.

We've knocked the warmers down now with the East Anglia scandal. Now it's time to start pummeling them relentlessly, day after day. The conservative media needs to start pounding the public with the word HOAX. It's nothing more than a HOAX folks. It was contrived to deprive you of your liberty and grow government. Call your congressman and senators and ask them why they are wanting to pass legislation based on a HOAX!

Right now the only people I hear using the word HOAX are Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck. We should all start blasting the left with HOAX until it is roaring in their ears.

IT'S A HOAX DAMMIT! IT'S A HOAX!

Why are they so afraid to say it?

Old Dog Learns a New Trick

At my age and position in life, it's not every day that I learn a new trick, but early this morning I intubated a woman with our new video laryngoscope. A first time trick for me.

Now, video laryngoscopes are nothing new, they have been around for a while, but since they are quite expensive, it took a long time for our small place to afford one. After all, we only got penicillin a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, if you've never really intubated someone you'll have no true frame of reference here, but I'll do my best to share.

The old method entails using a standard laryngoscope, which is nothing more than a flat, curved or straight piece of metal with a light on the end. The trick is to slide the thing over the tongue and into the throat, visualize the vocal cords, and then with your free hand, pass an endotracheal tube past the vocal chords into the trachea. Unfortunately this is not always as easy as it sounds. Sometimes the tongue gets in the way. Sometimes you can't see anything except secretions or vomit. Sometimes a person's anatomy is different enough from the norm that you just can't find the trachea. Oh, by the way, if the patient is awake, as this one was, you have to sedate and paralyze them first. You can imagine that awake and alert people don't particularly like tubes shoved down their windpipes.

These problems are supposed to be minimized with the video laryngoscope. Our particular scope has a light and a camera lens on the end of the blade. You simply insert the device into the mouth and look at a small TV screen on the other end (it's in COLOR!). So far so good, but I knew right away this whole thing was going to be different. I got no physical sensation of wrestling by the tongue. Some people have very big and uncooperative tongues. I had to resist the urge to look down the patient's mouth and instead focus on the TV screen. I had to resist the urge to pull the scope upward against the tongue (not necessary unless you have to look down the mouth). The vocal chords miraculously appeared on the TV, but it was not like looking at real vocal chords but rather more like a picture in a text book.

When it came time to pass the tube, again I had no physical cues of the distance of the tube tip from the trachea. When you're looking down the person's mouth, you kinda lnow where the tube is the whole time. I just had to advance the tube and wait for it to appear on the TV. Suddenly, without warning or fanfare, there it was.

Then I had to manipulate the tip of the tube into the trachea. This was not an easy task at first and it seemed like I was actually disconnected from the tube and I was moving it by some kind of remote control. Anyway, with a bit of wiggling and jiggling I finally got it past the vocal chords and all was well.

Strangely, the whole thing kinda reminded me of when I got my electrically steered, autopilot trolling motor for my boat. I know, it's a strange analogy. The old trolling motor had a mechanical linkage to the foot pedal. I got a constant feedback as to the position of the motor through my foot. When I went all electric, there was no more feedback. I had to actually look at the motor head to determine the position. This took a bit of getting used to, but with the precise steering, the infinitely variable speed control, and the autopilot, I wouldn't go back to the old unit.

So there ya go. If you need a tube shoved down your throat, come see me. I'm your man!
