Burning Questions - Need Answers

Every now and then sweet wifey fixes me some field peas for supper. Well when you think about it, aren't ALL peas grown in some kinda field? What makes field peas so special?

Ever heard the term tooth dentist? What other kind of dentist would there be? I have never heard of a finger dentist or a toe dentist.

These serious questions have been seriously bugging me for about 50 years now. Anybody got any ideas or solutions?

  1. Field Peas:

"The term 'Southern Field Peas' refers to hundreds of different varieties of peas that are subdivided into four main groups: field peas, Crowder peas, cream peas and black-eyed peas. Originally brought to the US from the Niger River basin of West Africa, Field peas have been in the New World since colonial times. Field peas became a staple food among poor residents in the deep American south, as they are drought tolerant and easily adaptable to varying types of soils. The beans are eaten both as fresh shelled beans and dried, on the vine, for winter eating. Each variety offers a distinctive taste and color. "

    There you go.

  2. Those are burning questions and requirement a great deal of thought and time to answer, frankly more than I have today.

Your new image is quite stunning like a man lost in an alien land!

  3. Ron, I dunno where the background is supposed to be. It is a painting by some artist of an alien landscape, a planet or moon, but not sure where. I guess if a moon in our solar system, it would have to be Titan, but the big ball to the left does not look much like Saturn.

I guess it will have to remain a mystery like field peas and tooth dentists.

  4. Grouch,

    I think you married up!

Does she know about poke salad and collards too? Looks like you got a good one there!

I bet she can fry up a mess of catfish with cheese-grits and cornbread!

  5. Of course I know about poke salad and collard greens, I've actually picked and cooked both. He catched the cat fish (and Bass, and Crappie) and he cleans them, then I cook them.

I love cheese grits, haven't fixed them in a long time.

  10. Grouch,

I don't know about a tooth dentist, the thought of Navy beans without having Army, Marine, or Airforce beans is what keeps me awke at night!

Any help would be much appreciated!

  11. Also, why are NAVY beans white? We had summer whites and dress whitea (always thought dress whites looked so cool) but we also had dress blues, salt and pepper etc.

Beats me. I would suppose Army beans might be green, Marine beans maybe camo or khaki, Air Force beans blue?

Maybe Barack Obama beans, slightly brown and only speak with a negro dialect when they want to.
