A Change in the Weather

For the first time this year, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for our area. Outside the sky is gray and the temperature is above 60 degrees, all this only a month after the winter solstice.

I'm looking at the radar and although there appears to be no immediate threat, there is a definite spin in the atmosphere from a low pressure area just to the northwest.

Tornado events here in January are very uncommon but have historically produced disastrous results. Specifically I recall the Jackson, Tennessee tornado of January 17, 1999 which killed 8 people.

So eyes are to the sky today. Boy what a change from our weather just a couple of weeks ago!

  1. There is supposed to be a cold front that is clashing with out heat wave, and causing our stormy weather.

I can tell you the sky was very dark, that gray/black/green you see when tornadoes can form. There was a monsoon rain while I was in Wal-Mart. When I came out the sky was blue, the sun shining and a beautiful complete rainbow across the sky.

Then half way home the dark sky again, here at home sunshine.

    Right Truth

  2. Glad you made it home all okay. Looks like the worst has passed.
