Some Things Make No Sense

I have a question. Who would let a 16 year old girl try and sail around the world by herself? Well, they did and now Abby Sunderland is lost at sea. According to the story, her brother Zac sailed around the world solo at age 17.

No doubt she and Zac are accomplished sailors but for God's sake, they're kids!

I hope she turns up but I really don't have a good feeling she'll ever be found, and what about all the expense of the search and rescue effort that is going on right now? I can only hope her parents will be required to foot the entire bill. Sometimes you just gotta wonder.

  2. Abby has been found and ship is on the way to rescue her. The mast of the ship is broken, but the boat seems to be upright, according to the report I heard. They lucked out this time. They chose the worst time of year, when the ocean is most treacherous, for her trip. You have to wonder what they were thinking.

Trips like this usually have corporate sponsors, etc. but as I understand it they backed out because they felt she was not ready.

  3. In Holland we have a girl that wants to do the same thing as Abby, court stopt her because she has the duty to go to school till a certain age. I think they will try to do such things everytime with greater skills, it's crazy.

  4. You have to admit, she's handling the whole affair a lot better than most grownups who, in all likelihood, would have panicked once they left the pier.

  5. Thanks, Jovan.

Right Honey Pot, I'm glad they found her.

Droopy, I think Abby is home schooled.

R.J. I have nothing but admiration for Abby's skills and mentality. It is the parents' judgment I question. Sometimes you gotta learn to say NO.

  6. She had to fix the motor on the boat and after than the high swells broke her mast. A 16 year old that knows how to travel the ocean around the world, rebuild/fix a boat motor while in the middle of the ocean, is certainly nothing to laugh at. She says she loves the ocean and will try it again sometime.

  7. No doubt she is exceptional, but let her try it again when she is an adult and legally able to make her own decisions.
