The Gurgling Toad

Wouldn't you enjoy seeing this fine piece of art greeting you upon your arrival to work? Wouldn't it make you feel better to know that this "art" cost $600,000? Wouldn't it make you jump and shout to find out it is federal tax money paying for the thing?

This gurgling toad with a 10 foot fairy on its back will be greeting defense department employees working at the new $700 million Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. this fall. There is controversy and opposition over the price tag, but the Army Corps of Engineers is pushing forward because any delays would impact the completion of the huge project (the Mark Center).

This Mark Center is apparently a place for defense workers to report after being displaced by base closures. Basically they are just shifting defense workers around. Excuse me, but if the bases have been closed, why not just lay these people off and have them find work elsewhere? But no, the gubment is going to create jobs for them and erect a $700 million complex and a  $600,000 gurgling toad and fairy statue for them to see every day when they come to work.

We are broke and over $14 trillion in debt, and they're spending OUR money on this? What is wrong with these people?

  1. That's the ugliest piece of 'art' I've ever seen, I wouldn't pay $1.00 for it.
